Silvia Colasanti graduated in piano with Valentino Di Bella and in composition with Luciano Pelosi and Gian Paolo Chiti at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia of Rome, where she also studied music history and aesthetics with Claudio Annibaldi.
She then attended master class with Fabio Vacchi and was selected for the atelier de composition held by Wolfgang Rihm and Pascal Dusapin at the Centre Acanthes (Metz, France).
She attended (obtaining a diploma with merit) an advanced composition course held by Azio Corghi at Accademia Musicale Chigiana.
She also got a diploma for a master course in composition, held by Azio Corghi, at Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
She received from the President de la Republique the "Goffredo Petrassi" scholarship as the best graduated.

She has received various awards at national and international competitions, including the Zeitklang – Musikfabrik NÖ – Wien, the Lopes-Graça – Lisbon, the ICOMS - Turin, the “Valentino Bucchi”- Rome, the “Egidio Carella”, the “Città di Varese” and the Settimane Musicali of Stresa.
The Adkins Chiti: Women in Music Foundation (Rome) has commissioned her to write a piece of sacred music for the Vatican City. Radio Rai has also selected Silvia Colasanti to be Italy’s representative at the International Rostrum of Composers.
Recently the Civitella Ranieri Foundation of New York awarded her a grant to support her composing activity.
