Pianist and e composer.
After passing her Diploma in Piano at the Turin Conservatory with full marks, and a Diploma in Harpsichord at Milan Conservatory, she took a two-year specialisation course in Musical cultures at Tor Vergata University in Rome.
She perfected her interpretation and her piano, harpsichord and chamber music repertory with Jörg Demus, Paul Badura Skoda, Emilia Fadini and Lazar Berman.
She has published articles in a number of magazines (Tastiere, Guitar Club, Drum Club, Suonare News, etc.), as well as a Course of Music Theory and Reading, and a number of columns (Piano teachers, Interpretation, Music for guitar and piano, Instruments and traditions, focusing in particular on ethnic instruments).
She has taught piano at the Turin Civic School of Music and has also been artistic director of the C.I.S.M. (International Centre of Musical Studies) at Sermig, also in Turin; she has directed and taught courses in Musical interpretation in other Italian cities.
She has performed at international Festivals, and for television broadcasts by the Italian state broadcaster RAI, RAI International and other networks.
She has collaborated with the Turin City authorities as musical consultant in the theatre field, and has been responsible for the artistic and musical choices of several educational Theatre Projects.
She has numerous recordings to her name, both as a soloist and as artistic director.
Her own recordings include: a CD recorded live at the Concert for Solidarity (SARX/Ducale) on which she performs pieces from her chamber music repertory; the CD Christmas Songs for Guitar and Piano (Nìccolò/Stradivarius) with guitar-player Maurizio Colonna, on which they have recomposed and interpreted some of the best known Christmas Carols, producing refined instrumental versions for guitar-piano duo and solo piano.
In May 2006, the CD “Lacoste” was released, with ten original compositions for piano that she performs herself.
The CD marked the inauguration of the NCM – New Classic Music label (EGEA Distribution), which she founded with Maurizio Colonna. The score for the entire “Lacoste” album was published by Carisch-Machiavelli Music Publishing © 2006. NCM - New Classic Music will soon release her new CD, Passages (EGEA Distribution), which contains fourteen original compositions for piano, written and interpreted by Luciana Bigazzi; guest performers on this new album include percussionist Ivan Ciccarelli (in the opening piece) and Monica Smith (in two pieces) playing crystal bowls – Score published by Carisch-Machiavelli Music Publishing © 2008.
As artistic director, she has developed and coordinated concert, record and video projects in Italy and the USA, for Polydor (Polygram), Panarecord, Palladium (Ricordi), Playgame (Carisch), Nìccolò (Stradivarius), Libera/EGEA and Libera/EDEL.
Her artistic output includes: the soundtrack for the film “Object of beauty” (starring John Malkovich and Andie MacDowell, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg), recorded at Studio 55 in Hollywood (Los Angeles – California) with contributions from Paulinho Da Costa, Alex Acuña and Abraham Laboriel; the CD and Video Imagery Suite by the guitar duo Colonna & Gambale (from an idea by Maurizio Colonna), recorded in Rome; the CD Colonna & Gambale live (co-produced with Roberto Colombo); she has also produced (with Roberto Colombo for Libera-EDEL) another CD by the same duo, Bon Voyage, which was presented in India (in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore and on the Indian national and international television) in October 2007.
She has directed numerous concert tours, seminars and master classes, including the acoustic concerts of the duo Colonna & Gambale, the duo Antonella Ruggiero & Maurizio Colonna and the trio Ruggiero-Colonna-Gambale.
Her compositions and arrangements have been published by various publishers.
Her most significant compositions for Edizioni Bèrben of Ancona include: Holasovice for piano, Sault for piano and instrumental versions of Christmas music; for Libera-BMG: Sanctus for voice and strings, and Un dia de lluvia for piano, guitar and pop orchestra, both composed jointly with Maurizio Colonna; and for Carisch-Machiavelli Music Publishing: the Lacoste and Passages albums.
She also directs the Christmas Songs Collection of international scores (Bèrben), which includes instrumental versions and versions for voice and instruments/orchestra of traditional Christmas music from all over the world, by well-known contemporary musicians.
